I feel like I've found lutherie's lost library of Alexandria here on the OLF. I've found a million pearls of wisdom that I'd like to remember. Other than creating browser bookmarks, does anyone have recommendations on how they save great topics and posts?

Is there a way to search all topics by username?

Thanks,

Greg

Sort of.

If you play with the search tool you can find things reasonably quickly. You can search by user name but that will generally give you much more than you want. Sometimes you can constrain it by searching only the archive etc.

I generally save topics by creating book marks and for the really great threads I print them and put them in a notebook.

look up at the upper left of your browsers window...there is the word file...click on it and choose save page as..then direct the page to an appropriate place on your HDD (I advise creating a new folder), choose a name for the .html document you are about to create, and then save it and assuming you don't have a complete meltdown of your HDD, you will always have it available for future use at your convenience....side note, if your OS goes south, your data is still quite readily available, just choose to get a new HDD, install your OS on it, then use the old HDD as a slaved data drive and your set (I learned this after I lost a hell of a lot of audio work)...at this point all of my machines are dual boots with their respective OS's residing on separate physical HDDs and I haven't lost a shred of data since, and have been able to do remote repairs of a damaged OS via the other operable OS

I save all the topics I'm interested by bookmark and when they hit the archives, I print them to a pdf and save on my hard drive. There are many simple pdf makers you can get for free these days.

When I need to reference, I print to hard copy and take it to the shop. Once I'm done with it, I turn it over and it becomes my scrap for writing on in the shop.

Hi guys.

I'm new here too. I have the field set to see all posts in the past 1 week. Is there a way for the discussions to load faster?

Looking forward to good times here.

Dave.

There is an active topics section at the top of the page.  It will show you the active topics with the most recent posts.  I hear it loads a little faster.  However, in a short time it will not make any difference, since our fantastic owners are running up the flag on an new system that should be better in many respects.

FYI, when the kinks get worked out and the OLF gets on the new phpBB system, there's a cool Bookmark feature that lets you maintain a list of threads you want to track.

Thanks for all of the helpful replies. I'll be looking for the new version of the forum.

I was hoping there might be a topical index. I'm an IT refugee right now and have a little time on my hands. I'm thinking of creating some pages with key posts and links to related content. Maybe the new version would let me automate some of that.

Thanks,

Is there a setting or something I am missing? When I try to get on the forum from my home computer, it won't show the forum at the bottom, just a black place. (there are some error codes there). Is it looking to bounce cookies or something?

Welcome to the OLF!

I usually save the threads that I find interesting, as a pdf file. They're searchable and they look just like they did on the internet page that I got them from.
