Hey, Don-
I'm the worst kind of sports fan- 'World' Series, SuperBowl, Grey Cup, Stanley Cup- you get the picture- not devoted...

I watched the series, and my only comment is 'More spitting than hitting!"
I swear, I will not miss the loving minute-long shots of managers horking on the floor, or Lowell wiping a drool from his chin on the sleeve of his shirt...
Gimme a long shot of the field and forget the closeups!!

What is it with that sport? Isn't anybody taught as a kid not to spit anymore?

They do have an uncanny ability to catch these guys in mid-spit don't they.  It's almost like "I see the red light, gonna spit now, and try to make it look professional."  "Oops, next time, maybe!"

Notice I didn't say "World Champions" either. I'm being sensitive to the international flavour of the OLF!
Face it....it's a national championship not a global one anyway.

The Red Sox looked very formidible...good pitching, defense and hitting. Congrats to all of their fans!

Too bad the Rockies forgot how to play baseball. That was an embarrassing performance.

But wait...the Patriots are poised to do the same thing in January!

Who knows?
The Colts and the Steelers also look very very good. Anything can happen, but if all goes as is currently going...they could possibly go undefeated the whole season. The first big test is this Sunday at 4:15 EST.

I heard a story on the radio... Seems this disenchanted fan who owns a furniture store said that he would reimburse all his clients if the Sox took it home...(I forget how long the window was) They claimed that there were over 30 000 people who bought things from that store, including one man in particular who furnished his whole house to the tune of 45K!!!!

I think it's the last time that dude opens his big mouth! LOL!

It's not just a story, it's actually true...but he wasn't disenchanted. Jordan's Furniture - It was a great hook for a sale, and he knew it. He took out an insurance policy at the beginning of the season, and ran a special sale - buy now, pay later, or if the Red Sox win the World Series, you get it for free. Needless to say, there were a LOT of happy customers, and the owner of the store was happy as can be. He actually bought a bunch of commercial time during the playoffs to cheer on the team so his customers would win too. He sold tons of furniture, and the insurance company footed the bill for it all.
Don't be surprised if he does it again...unless of course he has a hard time finding an insurance company willing to take the risk...

No, Don- the folks who buy insurance from that company will be footing the bill in their premiums, next year, and the next, and the next....
Or, perhaps this is a new version of our economic system? - the one where the CEO and the other 'brass' pay the loss out of their inflated salaries.........

Every time a company runs a promotion where the big prize is not guaranteed to be awarded, they take out an insurance policy to cover the cost if the unlikely event occurs. For example a hole-in-one contest at the local golf course. The insurance company charges a premium that makes it worth their while to offer the policy. For the Jordan's Furniture promotion, they lost their bet. For the all the hole-in-one contests they covered, they probably did not.

If the insurer is something like Lloyds of London, the underwriters are financially secure individuals who have to be invited to participate.

Wuhh? Wuhh? Oh yeah, wake up here - I fell asleep since the Yankees were out.

I know, it's perverse to be a Yankees fan. It's even more perverse to be a Yankees fan from the Eastern shore of Maryland, so here's my story.

As a young tyke, around 7 or so in 1959 or so, I went to my first major league game in Memorial Stadium in Baltimore. We were sitting about 4 rows back in the outfield bleachers. At the end of the Yankees' field practice, Mickey Mantle threw the outfield practice ball to a kid in the front row of the bleachers, 4 rows in front of me. In the first inning, he hit a home run to the same kid. Mystical experience! I've been a Yankees fan ever since. But heh, I had to live through the late 60's and early 70's with that albatross - at least I got to enjoy it some in the 90's!
