Hello,
I have completed my 1st binding install, sanded a lot and put a coat of shellac on the top for protection. I plan to start pore filling this evening. Will the shellac that has run down onto the sides affect the pore filling or cause any type of discoloration... ie. do I really need to sand it off before applying my epoxy pore filler?

I'd definitely try to get the bulk of the shellac drip removed before putting on the epoxy.
Often a paper towel and alcohol will remove shellac, especially if it is fresh. It can also help to 'blend' out the shellac mark.
You could test a scrap with shellac and then epoxy to see if the shellac will show, of course. That might take a bit of time, but will give you a better answer than you'll get online.

Chris shellac sticks to epoxy very well unfortunately epoxy does not stick well to shellac.  I would sand the shellac off the sides prior to using an epoxy finishing resin and pore filling.  This would go for the bindings too on the top if they have open pores.

if you plan to pore fill with epoxy, do it before you seal the guitar with shellac. as epoxy does not adhere to shellac well.

No worries, I'm pore filling the back and sides with epoxy. The shellac on the top is to protect from the epoxy. Giving the ole' french polish a try up there.

Good, I did not mean to sound critical. I was actuall quoting one of my all time favorite radio charitures when I wrote "We say it and we say it but nobody listens" That would be Fiber Magee but I beat I am one of the few around here Oldenough to remember the Fiber Magee and Molly radio show.
