received my new neck alignment jig yesterday and put on some cork padding.

had an early '50's d28 come in for a refret this morning and thought i would try out the jig just for kicks.

worked like a charm, but showed that the bridge is not aligned properly, off center about 1/8" toward the treble. argggg!!!! hard to tell the client his treasured classic is defective since he's been playing it that way for 50+ years, so i'm not going to.

pleasing thing is the neck hasn't been reset and still doesn't need it.

Don't you just hate that when jigs work like they are supposed to?!

perhaps best termed a love/hate relationship!!!

the love part is when they make doing good, correct work quick, easy, precise, and a plesure.

the hate part only comes in when they reveal my screw-ups from earlier, less sophistcated times!!

however, my second test of the jig did reveal a limitation. tried it on a twelve string on which i'm replacing the bridge. the nut end sliding clamp is too narrow to fit the neck, so will have to make a third clamp to fit the wider part of the twelve wtring necks, moving the wider supplied version to the nut position on twelve strings and probably classical as well.

c'est le vie, or something like that...feel free to correct me mario!

La vie. Life, like most 'abstract' concepts (like libery, justice, freedom and all that) is female in french, as opposed to the male gender attributed to most 'concrete' objects. The guitar, though, is feminine. Wonder why that is...

thanks mattia

my french, if one can so call a smattering, or butchering, of a few words, was garnered many years ago whilst going out with a french miss living in montreal, with whom i wasn't too very focused on mastering grammatical correctness.
