If ’Decemberists’ is a band that appeard recently on Austin City Limits then it was one of the shows I missed.

Anyone see the DEcemberists performance-comments- or comments about what you have seen and heard from them in the past-or new stuff

I found this ensemble to be original and talented (characteristics that are hard to find these days in modern music). Interestingly, when guest Laura Viers took the stage, I was puzzled why they would have such a poor vocalist join them. Last week I was talking with my college-age son and I told him about the Decemberists and he told me that he really likes Laura Viers and has several of her recordings. He is a music performance major on piano and vocals - go figure!

I wouldn't say Death Cab is an acoustic based band.  They're actually a punk band, but have shifted more mainstream.  Sort of a mellowed out aged punk.  They write great songs.  I love DCFC on CD but hate them live, so dont base them off of the Austin City Limits show.  They just cant play live.

I saw the latest Wilco episode Sunday night...awsome.  Jeff Tweety can really write, and for some reason I'm always impressed with his guitar playing.

Decemberists get a little too "pirate"y for my tastes. I have an earlier album and it kind of wore on me a little.

I love Death Cab, saw them at Cain's in Tulsa last year and they sounded huge in a good way, really good show. I don't know that I would have classified any of their earlier stuff as punk, though they've polished up the sound a little.

Colin Meloy of the Decemberists has one of my guitars...

They're one of our hometown (Portland, OR) bands.
Unfortunately, I recently read that they've cancelled all their upcoming
shows, including the one here, on account of a bandmember has "health
issues".
Haven't seen them yet myself, but hope to someday.

I'm a huge fan. I've seen them live at Nashville's City Hall, and I was about 15 feet from Colin Meloy. It was one of the best shows I've seen, and Ive seen a lot, including Neil Young, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, etc, etc. They (Colin in particular) seem to be pretty darn smart and extremely humorous. They had great fun playing with the audience. They had the audience really participate. They had an impromptu dance contest and got the adience to do all sorts of wacky things. Loved the musicianship; there were bouzoukis, hurdy gurdeys, accordions, pedal steel guitars, cellos, violins and upright basses all played by the guys. Colin's voice may take some getting used to, but I've grown to like it. There website is fun, and they have some hilarious videos that make you think about their songs differently. Really unfortunate that somebody in the band has gotten sick.
Death Cab is also a favorite of mine, but the closest I've gotten to them is watcing them on Saturday Night Live. I love seeing every day looking guys rocking out. These guys certainly dont look like your average rock stars.
The best concert I have ever seen happened to be from a very obscure band called The Mock Turtles who were opening for a slightly less obscure band called The Blue Aeroplanes in London. The lead singer for the Turtles just about put every ounce of his being into the show. He could play his Rickenbacker dang well. The Aeroplanes were memorable in that they had one guy who's sole job on stage was to run around and dance and make general havoc. He didn't sing or play an instrument, he was just there for the energy.
