Hey guys! Here is my latest guitar, I strung it up the other night. This is #8 for me and the first one I made specifically for someone else with a certain sound in mind. It was a good challenge and made me think about everything in a little different way. Cosmetically, I think it is okay, I never did a full scale drawing and I am not sure the bridge and headstock go well with the body shape. Little gaps in the purfling and binding are still my nemesis too. This is my 5th French polish and this one is by far the best of the lot. Now that I don't dread the mystery of it each time I find I kind of like it. Here are the specs: Red Spruce top (with little wings) Honduran RW 4 pc. back and sides, headstock Mahogany neck Madagascar Rosewood fingerboard, bridge, binding curly maple purfling spalted maple rosette, end graft, back headstock bone pins, nut, saddle Schaller vintage tuners 26" scale French polish I like these guitars with their large upper bout. After reading about the flying buttresses and the potential for the upper bout contributing to the upper harmonics, I am excited to try to incorporate that into one of these size guitars. Burton, I don’t know what you mean by “Okay”, That guitar is beautiful!!! I love the body shape! The spalted maple complements the color scheme perfectly! And, I really like the way you did that 3 piece back! All around great craftsmanship if you ask me! Robert

Hey Burton, it came out nice...but what's with the clear pickguard on the wrong side?!! The 3-piece back really looks cool, and the maple does go great with it all. The color of that Honduran RW is incredible...

Exactly what they said. Very nice. I Think the curvy bridge shape goes very well with the deep curve of the waist. Good job. Ron

Thanks guys. I found that rosewood at a marine plywood store for cheap, a lucky find. Don, the person the guitar is for plays with a metal thumbpick and has worn a nice patch on the guitar he is playing now. I put a flamenco (?) style pickguard on there. This was my first time some really nice glassy rosewood and I can kind of see what the fuss is about. There is a bite to the trebles that I really like. I'll be interested to see how it changes as it gets played in.

Burton, Fantastic instrument my friend! This guitar looks to have a good devision going with its narrow waist and large upper bout. Do you think it has a dual "main air" frequency from this shape or maybe two peaks? I guess I've offten wondered what effects you would have with a deep devision of bout chambers. It's kind of opposite of a Dred. Very cool Burton! Wade

Wade, I guess I don't know! I'm not even sure how to check for the different frequencies. Sounds like a good question for Al. I do have a transverse brace just below the soundhole, so the top is somewhat split closely along the waist. I would be interested in learning more about that. Here is a bridge shot, it is in shadow in the other pics. and a rear headstock. I geeked out a little bit on the spalt, but I love it so much. It looks like the drawings I used to do in art school before I knew what it was. Only the spalt is even better.... stupid nature!
