in the days before these nifty (and expensive) dehumidifiers?  Was it even a concern to the Luthiers of old?


By the way, my name is Rob. I am working on my first guitar and this forum has been a great source of information, and entertainment

It wasn't done at all. That's why the great builders lived in certain areas(climates), and it's also why so many early factory instruments cracked and have had other serious issues, often.

Today, we all want to build instrument where we are presently, despite that being a  dry desert or a wet swamp, and we wish to do it year 'round. For that reason, we must educate ourselves as to why we need RH control.

Once upon a time, smart instrument makers built in certain seasons, and finished and/or repaired in the other seasons. We're too damned stubborned for that now....
