Two questions:

1) Which truss rod do you guys prefer and why? SM Hot Rod, single action, roll-your-own?

2) How necessary do you find a truss rod with a CF reinforced neck? Worthwhile, put in to make your customers feel better, complete waste of time?

Wes - none of the above - the new Allied stainless dual action rods are the best that I have ever used.  And they were designed by our very own Mark Blanchard.

Adding CF is to stiffen the neck, I am sure you know that, but the truss rod is to add adjustability to the neck, so they do different things and are not really in my mind a one or the other thing to do.

I don't use CF in my necks but I see the value in it for those who do.  And I might add it at some point too.  But for now with the Allied style rod it fits so tightly in the slot and is so very substantial in and of itself that I see no need for CF reinforcement.

I use the Allied rod and two 3/8" X 1/8" carbon bars... makes for a stiff yet adjustable neck.

I glue in a filler strip over the rod which packs it tightly in the slot. I don't use any sort of caulking.

I think you will like the Allied rod. It fits the same as the LMI rod but the threads are different, making it a lot easier to turn.
