Did gibson ever make the guitar with alder or swamp ash body. If so, what difference in sound from Mahogany?

Bob...why start a new thread...ask the LP question in the existing thread. It's already too confusing with more than one LP thread. Thanks

Sorry JJ,
Not intended to confuse,. Please feel free to remove it and place it where you deem appropriate

Ps, the reason I started a new thread is that the origional thread seems to be turning into a discussion of the merits of 'hand carved' v CNC, a topic for which I have no intrest.

I've seen LPs with swamp ash tops....not sure if that applies to the entire body.  Alder, probably not.

I've never heard a swamp ash LP, but the few I've seen looked pretty cool...just a clear-coat finish, nothing fancy.

Thank all.
Was really wondering what effect different body woods have or may have on the classic Mahog LP sound.

I'm building an electric right now that is made out of a swamp ash body. I chose it most for the fact that I wanted a really nice grain which I could clear coat. But from what I can recall of my research on the wood (which was almost 2 years ago) was that Swamp Ash would be right between Alder and Mahogandy tonally. It would not be the warm sound that mahogandy gives, but it would not be super bright like alder.

But since my guitar isnt finished (the first one always seems to take the longest), I can't really tell you how it actually sounds. I'm just going off what others have told me.

Bob...I'm in the process of a mahogany body under a curly maple top. I can't tell you the difference between this vs. other woods but I'll bet there is more that is influenced by the pickups and strings used.

I significantly chambered the inside and probably reduced the weight by 40-50%. I'll be interested in comparing the unamplified sound with a solid model. I would expect to get a different flavor.

??? I have not found alder to be super bright at all. Just my experience
though.

Try a PRS Swamp Ash Special vs. a regular flavour one. They have very different electronics, but you should be able to get a feel for the differences.
