I have several sets of Gotoh chrome tuners that have exceptionally short nuts (ferruls?). I have looked for longer ones, but havent been able to find any so far. Does anyone know of a source for longer ones?

Pictures? What's 'exceptionally short' in this context, and why are they unsuitable?

I put a sheet of veneer under the headstock and aparently this is just too much for the Gotoh tuners. I cant get the threads started on the threaded bushing. Perhaps if I left off the washer it would work, but then it would look weird. I need a longer bushing ( or nut, or threaded insert.....what ever you call them)

Yep the old 5/8" thick and over peghead syndrome. It is not just Gotoh's. Most posted tuners with threaded bushings will not work well with peghead thickness much over 19/32". (not enough thread engagement) Depending on depth of your topside peghead veneer you could cut recesses for washer and bushings to set in.

Ken, you can recover .010 to .020" by filing/sanding the back surface of tbe washer. If not yet finished, you can also scrape back (or indent)the tuner contact points on the rear veneer for a few more thou. (Don't ask me how I know all this)

I got one of the guitars working by cutting a channel for the washer to set in. It looks bad though. If at all possible, I would like to have longer bushings.

For the other guitars, I had some less expensive "no name" gold tuners that are 16:1 that will have to do....at least for now. I'll have to watch this more closely in the future...

It just seems like you should be able to buy some longer bushings, but I guess not..

How thick are your headstocks ???? the Gotoh 510s and 301s that I ahve used will easily work up to and slightly over .600 of an inch ...

Gotoh does make longer bushings but the US distributors have opted to stock only their standard length bushing. They can be ordered direct from the factory BUT you have to be a US distributor or manufacturer to order them. Most will not do this because of the high $ minimum $ required per order. If you are a member of NAMM and are going to the show you might be able to have someone at Gotoh bring some longer bushing over for you.

all 3 of the headstocks I have had problems with measure in at between .670 and .675

If .600 is all they will do, then I guess that explains my problems. The thickness of the headstock was the last thing on my mind when I made the necks...
