Just before I closed the box I was trying to remember a mental note to not forget something before started gluing. I then remembered I need to put the label inside. This morning I remembered that I always kept forgetting to put the sound hole braces in but of course the box is closed. I can’t seem to find the material I was going to use but do have some ? by ? mahogany that is long enough to fit. Do you think this would work alright? It should pretty easy to reach in and put them in place. Thanks Philip |

I have used mahogany for back braces, but not for soundboard bracing. As far as putting them in after the box is closed, I see no reason why it wont work. It would be much better to use some 1/4" square spruce for this, if for no other reason than appearance. |

Philip buddy they only really need to be 1/4" wide and say 1/8" high, more like strips then braces. And I agree with Ken that with a few dry clamping runs and judicious application of say Titebond that you could glue them in through the sound hole. I also think that mahogany would be fine as well. Labels are tough to get in and lined up through the sound hole because you can only use one hand and they usually have a contact adhesive on them. I have done it though and it worked out fine. I placed a center mark with a pencil on the center top of the back strip and one of the center top of the label and used one hand to drop the curved label into the sound hole matching up the marks. I used my thumb to rub one side down first and then let the other side fall into place and rubbed it down. Then of course you erase the pencil marks. I little kid who is coordinated might be able to do this with two hands. |

I wasn't too clear as I was writing fast. The label did get onto the back before I closed it. It was after that I remembered the braces. Should be ok. Thanks for the help and suport. Philip |
