Well my new LN Model Maker's plane arrived today and man is it nice! This is a size that I use quite a bit for tapering braces and profiling sides. It fits my hand perfectly and feels like I am holding a very high quality, precision tool. Here is a pic and the airplane wings came from a model airplane that our bro Tim McKnight gives out at trade shows.  Hence a "plane" get it....... I know - shut up Hesh.......   |

Hesh nice score. I have a couple of old Stanley squirrel tail planes just like that. One flat and one concave. I didn't know lie nielsen made a newer version of these. I love little planes like these and pick them up where ever i can. |

Hesh- Now, let's see if you have the nerve to grind off the edges on that new L$$$$N plane, so you can work on braces with less chance of putting a groove in the top/back! Another trick I learned from Jeremy Clark at Sergei deJonge's. Nice plane! Cheers John |

Hesh, I am on the record as liking all things Lie-Nielsen, but the mouth is quite large on that plane. I am guessing it closes up when you have the iron in action-mode. |

I generally knock the very corner off most (except for rabbet planes and the like) of my plane blades as well. The rounded body edge isn't enough to prevent all 'nicks' in my hands (esp back reinforcement strips), so I generally use a strip of scrap formica or thin plastic as a 'guard' as well, when planing braces. Yes, I know- that plane blade needs sharpening! (Amazing what shows up in a pic, huh?) Cheers John |

John looks like a good idea. I'll have to try that on one of my mini block planes. Not valuable so i don't have a problem doing this. |

Yah Hesh, I've had the same plane for four months since I got down to Somogyi's. Japan Woodworker is just a few miles south... This has rapidly become my favorite plane.
