Which is the better choice for sanding bowls, rectangular or round-what size is best for each? Are the round used only if I plan to motorize? Thank you, |

Bob I use round and I do not have them motorized. I bought my bowls from Mark at www.guitarjigs.com. Motorized would save a lot of time, but I am not at the point where I am building enough to justify that. Also I don't have room for a motorized set up. It really doesn't take that long to sand them withought the motor. hope that is of some help Josh |

Bob, I have both, I use the round ones for sanding, I don't have a motorized sander, its just easer to turn a disk than it would be any other shape. I have a few that are guitar shaped for gluing tops and backs to the sides in, this allows the clamps to reach in far enough. Here is a little jig I made for bowl sanding. BOWL SANDER |

Bob, I use round ones because it fits into my go-bar deck easier. They are 24" in diameter, and the base of my go-bar deck is 24", but with the roundness of the dish I can put it into my deck and not hit my threaded rods in each corner of my deck. I'm offering these dishes for sale now, but my website is not complete now(will be in about 2 weeks). I use 13ply birch at .75 thick that is finished with shellac, and 80 grit heavy duty sandpaper. I sell them for $125 for 2, or $70 for one. You save more if you order 2. If you don't want sandpaper you can get 2 for $99, or 1 for $55 without sandpaper. This is a great deal for birch dishes which no one out there sells. Anyway, good luck! Tracy ps, here is a pic ![]() |

I have bought some of Tracy's radius dishes and I can say without hesitation they are THE BEST dish on the market. No MDF, No cheap ply, just super high quality, birch ply with a thin coats of finish. you CANNOT go wrong with these dishes, and for the price it just can't be beat!! |

Can you do convex dishes as well? (for shaping bridge bottoms, etc.) |

Brock, Not yet, but will in the future. The guy I'm doing business with just needs to write the program for his CNC machine. But he is tied up on other jigs now. We will probably offer 10" disks in convex form in any radius at some point, just not now. Thanks! Tracy |
