Does anybody know about these strings. Quite a few think they are the hottest thing since the guitar pick.

As a fingerstyler who has never owned a pick in 40 years that's not a very good reputation!

I used Firewires on a couple of guitars. I was impressed by their quality
and brightness. They seemed a little stiffer and higher tension than many
strings. On a small-bodied, short-scale guitar that was a little overbuilt,
they really brought it to life. On a larger, jazz-oriented guitar, they
sounded great.

They wouldn't be my first choice for fingerstyle or for a lightly-built
guitar, but that's a personal preference.

They sent me a couple of sets to try out. So far I tried the Phosphor Bronze's which lasted about 4 months. This is a bit better than my usual, the D'Addario EXP 16's.

As far as sound goes, I found them similar to the D'Addario's, but they did add somewhat of a little more "magic" to my Blanchard Bristlecone. I'm not sure what it was or how to describe it, but I did notice something lacking going back to the D'Addario's.

As far as negative comments ... they seem to have an accentuated finger noise compared to the D'Addarios. Basically, as if the D'Addario's go "sssssst" during slides, and the Firewires go "dzzzzzzzt".

I also would tend to agree with Rick in that they probably do feel slightly stiffer. Just a tiny bit.

Any day now I'll throw on the 80/20's they sent and try those out.
