Did you mean thick or wide?

I get my 2" wide double stick tape at Ace Hardware. They sell it as carpet tape. It's not very thick though.

I bought some of the thick spongy stuff once and tried to use, but there was too much play in it for it to work. You need the very thin carpet tape that Dave mentioned.

Thin carpet tape is great, but get a brand name you trust if you can. They're not all created equal. The stuff I have now is quasi-transparent and has filaments of fibreglass or something similar in it. Works like a charm.

I use tape made for regripping golf clubs. It's 3/4" wide and holds very well. It's available at most golf shops.

I use Scotch brand double sided tape. I get it from Staples but have seen it in grocery stores around here. Scotch makes 2 types, "permanent" and "removeable". If you try it get the permanent stuff, the removeable is not good for our use. It's 1/2" wide and "sticks" just enough to get the job done and is not a hassle to un-stick. I've found the carpet tape to be too gummy and tenacious to remove easily. The back of the tapes label says Cat. 137. Been real happy with it and the price and availablity is right.

I use golf club grip tape also. I like the two inch width. If you are looking for thick stuff, look into the stuff used for mounting radio control model servos. I used some 1/4 inch thick stuff years ago, but I don't know what's on the market now.

I'll 4th or 5th the golf grip tape. I had a bunch I got from Golfsmith for regripping golf clubs and tried it for holding down sandpaper and it worked well. I don't know if its any different than carpet tape. I haven't runout yet so I haven't tried anything else. I did pick up some sand paper once at Ace Hardward that has a peel-off taped back and it works well. They didn't have any of the finer grainers of paper though.
