I finnaly got well into the repair of the Ovation Ballader this weekend. According to the owner the guitar has never had fet work done. Frets came out fairly easy with just a bit of chiping. But aparently ovation uses a lot of glue when fretting. Two hours of slot clearing an there is still a bit more to do. I don't use any glue on new builds except when I have a problem fret, which is pretty rare. Why would Ovation use glue on every fret, and excesivly deep slot as well. Maybe that is the reason for the glue . What a pain MichaelP38460.5026851852

I think if there was ever one guitar built that I realy didn't like it would have to be an Ovation. I suppose from an engineering standpoint they make some sense but then they use PLASTIC? Yuck! Maybe some day they will just ban them altogether

The Kaman Corp., which owns Ovation, got its start making composite helicopter blades. It is an interesting corporation. Their music division represents 16% of their business. The rest of their business is in aerospace (25%) and industrial distribution (59%). Let’s just put it this way: they have made a lot of money using modern glues, plastics, and composites and they aren’t afraid to use them on their guitars.
