Do most of you who spray lacquer use some type of spray booth, or do you do something different? What type of ventilation is required if your shop is in the basement? What's the easiest way to vent when your shop is in the basement with no current exhaust fan to the outside? Any opinions are greatly appreciated? Thanks! John |

Tim, Nice setup. Is your exhaust fan mounted on a garage door? Do you have any ideas how to do that if your shop is in the basement? Thanks! John |

John, I wouldn't spray nitro lacquer in my basement. Period. I sprayed a sheet of decals a couple weeks ago, and the fumes were awful. It went through the whole house, and lasted for many hours. Imagine a whole guitar. Ick. But that's just me. You need an explosion-proof fan & lighting, and great ventilation for nitro. Not to mention you can't have pilots on a furnace going or anything that could cause a flash-fire. And they happen. I know a builder who went through one. Tim's setup is a great idea though, and if I were going to spray in the basement I would do something like that myself. Unfortunately, I have no way to vent outside easily. If I wanted to spray nitro myself, I have access to a 12' x 14' professional spray booth. Brand spankin' new. |

KTM-9's a waterbase, and has zero flammability. |

John, I've got the same situation as you with a basement workshop. It has no access for outside venting. For now I am trying waterbased and believe it or not am spraying in my shower. It does make for a quick clean up.  The bathroom does have a pretty decent exhaust fan in the ceiling but I'm looking into having a more powerful one installed. However, I've about reached the point that I'm considering sending them out to be finished (especially after seeing Lance's last few guitars).
