More Q's from the Newbie How do all of you position your saddle/bridge for intonation. Do you use something like a saddlematic and pick some specific distance from the scale length for the high E and Low E etc. Or do you have a method for using a tuner and directly place the bridge/saddle. Thanks again for putting up with a rookie Andy |

i assume you are refering to building rather than repair work. the bridge, complete except for slotting is located and glued in position, holes drilled, reamed, countersunk, etc. location is based on scale length. then using whatever you have available, bits of wire, old string, metal rod, s-m's handy little intonation tool, correct intonation is found for each string and saddle location marked. cut the slot, make fit the saddle. i use oversize saddle blanks when necessary to allow room for individual string compensation. |
