I may not be into sunbursts but I am into that one. Looks great Brock. I had a Guild that was sunburst and it didn't look half as good as yours. Guess thats the difference between individual luthiers and the machine world.

That looks great. One of the best markers of fine craftmanship is when you have to think about how the craftsman did it. Everything about that guitar works.

Outstanding!

Brock,

It is beautiful! I love sunbursts, and yours is very well done. That ebony binding really sets it off.

How do you do it? I would love to try sometime.

Jeff

Very nice Brock! Both my electrics are sunburst, I guess I've always associated the finish with electric guitars, and natural finish with acoustics...This one looks great though, especially with the clean lines and excellent craftsmanship...A++!

Thanks guys. I have a whole batch that are finishing up right now. I will post a few more pics as I get them done.

I appreciate the comments.

Brock, it looks great! What type of finish are you using? I thought you told me that you had trouble with finishing...doesn't look like that to me.

Maybe next time you do a burst you could take some pics and show us how you do it. I have one now that could use a burst, got it a little too hot on the bender (and black acacia doesn't like that).

Great job dude!

Thanks, Dave.

My problem with finishing is mostly that I am not set up for it. I have to wait for nice calm days so I can spray in the yard.

This is nitro. I am doing about 1/2 my finishes myself, and the other half I am sending out.

I have a madrose one that I will be sending to Tony soon, I can't wait to give him a try.

I am not set up for spraying either so I French polish everything. I have thought of sending my guitars out but Have no idea who to send it to and hate the idea of having to ship a guitar 1000s of miles for spraying.

Great job Brock. I'm not a big fan of sunburst finishes, but you have done a great job none-the-less. Was this for a paying customer, or for your own enjoyment? I bet you can't wait to hear this guitar sing!

When I built it it was for me, now it is sold.

With regards to contract finishes, there are 3 people I know that do this: 1) Dale Bartholomew -- who does some of my work now 2) Tony Ferguson (sp) -- This is Lance's guy. 3) Addam Stark -- never worked with him, but I hear his finishes are great.

I know of a few high end builders, westcoast folks that use Addam, I spoke with him over the phone a year ago, competitive prices, nice guy, but for me, Tony is next day shipping when I use UPS Ground - it would probably be for you too Brock --

Brock,

Where did you learn how to do a sunburst finish? I would like to find a good resource, so I can start studying!

Thank you.

Brock, that is one gorgeous guitar. Please bring it along Tuesday so I can drool all over it as we swap finger prints

Are we still on for Tuesday? If so, what time? I'm here all day.

Wow.....nice looking burst, and the guitaris pretty great too. Nice work. Is there anything at all you don't do well???

Brock, it looks great. What would you call the finish? Maybe honey tobacco? The whole guitar appears well done. I notice that you are using the flat Guild type heel. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Brock--woohoo, really pretty. Love the maple...where'd ya get that?

Brock

I also am not set up for spraying in doors so I have to wait for a nice day to do my spraying. Just have to be sure to pick the bugs out of the finish before you spray the next coat.

Great guitar! I would be interested in a quick overview of the sunburst process if you have the time.

Nice guitar Brock. I didn't think I liked sunbursts or curly maple, you've changed my mind. You have a good eye.
