Sylvan,

Stunning work. May we all develop the skill it takes to do this kind of artistry.

Is it a commission? One lucky person will be very, very happy.

most impressive sylvan. what size is the body? and is the inlay your work or did you farm it out?

Author:  Sylvan [ Sun Jul 03, 2005 8:34 am ]

The body size is roughly the size of a dreadnaught (it fits a standard
dreadnaught shape) but it is my design. I did not create the inlay but I did
inlay it in the headstock. This particular guitar was not a commission-it has
a sister instrument that was a commission but, since I was building one 12
string I thought I would build another. This one is by far the most elaborate!

Sylvan, you were holding out on me! No wonder you replied to my question on string spacing so quickly, you'd just done it yourself! I only wish mine looked as good as yours, but now I'm afraid to post a photo...excellent work though, you are one of the big dogs!

As always Sylvan, your work is impressive. I can only hope to obtain that skill level someday.

Beautiful guitar.

Sylvan, great work as always. I'd sure like to hear about Bozo's bracing pattern if you feel inclined to share his wisdom.

Don -
I don't think Bozo would mind if I shared but I don't think he would want me to post it. If you are going to build one we are close enough together geographically to get together and talk about it and I could show you his drawings.

Sylvan, Is that the same one I played at your shop? I played so many beautiful guitars it is hard to remember. It sure is a beauty. I do remember seeing and playing some equally beautiful electrics that played like butter. The 12 string I played just rang like a chime, really beautiful! Thanks Again for Everything!

Sylvan, that's just great. I only hope that you left a great big mess in your shop once the Angel was finished.

That guitar was not finished when you were here. I had not made the bridge or fretted it until after the ASIA symposium. I am glad you had a good time. Sally and I enjoyed having you!Sylvan38536.9658564815

Excellent workmanship, as one would expect from Sylvan. I don't think, I could get away with an angel on one of my guitars though, green man maybe.

As to bracing for a 12-string, among the builders that I know that put together 12 strings (and from my vast knowledge of building one OM 12string!) the bracing pattern that seems to be gaining ground is the AXX, like this one.

Wow, you guys just keep raising the bar, while the rest of us are playing catch-up. I really like that guitar, now you got me wanting to build a 12 string.

Beautiful and well executed. The inlay is gorgeous and is a good counterpart to the formal look of the Brazilian...you must have had that set for awhile...it is hard to find sets today that are that straight grained and dark.
