Last summer I got on this archtop kick, and I started to make a duplicator. Here it is a year later and I don't see any archtops in my near future. Anyway this duplicator that I started to make is just taking up room in my shop and I thought I would give someone the opportunity to take this project over.

Basically I am selling a couple of pillow blocks (Linear Bearings), a couple of drawer slides and some aluminum. I never finished this thing, so I don't know how it would work, but is seems like it makes sense and could "rough" out tops and backs for archtops. It is shown with a PC router (not included) I got about $120 bucks into the bearings/precision rod and another $50 or so into the alum and $10 or so for the drawer slides.

Anybody interested in the hardware? If your are nearby enough, you can have it on the melimine sheet too.



The image shows a couple of necks on there, although I never intended it to do that sort of stuff. It was for archtop plates. You can see the brake system (not hooked up) that I was going to put on it.



Really the bearings are nice, and I could probably use them for something, so if nobody wants this thing, I will probably dismantle it and keep the bearings here for something. If I can get 1/2 my investment back, I will let the stuff go to a NEL or OLF member for that price.

I hope this is not inappropriate use of the forum and I doubt it is, as I am not trying to make a profit.

Well I finished my pin router this weekend. I use 24" and 20" heavy duty full extension ball bearing drawer slides for the slid rails. That gave me 24” X travel and 15” of Y travel after accounting for the router base between the rails. It is set up to use my StewMac Dremel router base attached to my new Fordom rotary tool, but after about 18" of X travel it gets a little stiff. I doubled checked square and parallel all was good. I think I have a bad spot in one of the rails. I plan to use this a lot so I am going to invest in a set of 24" linear rails with two cars on each rail. It will cost a bit more but I want good smooth motion though out the travel.

I did cut an intracate test inlay with it using a mold I made with Friendly Plastic What a time saver. I also duplicated a bridge with it. I am going to love it once I get it right.

It should be smooth through the whole travel. Did you take off the rubber bumper stops from the slides? I found the slides are smoother without them. Mine is full range smooth as glass.

Yep. I checked them before installation the seamed good. I have looked for high mounting screws, checked square. It is like glass till the middle rail starts to move, and that is when it binds. With the rail at full extension it slides back to the closed position smooth as silk. It feels like bearings binding as the middle rail first starts to move. I may replace the two "X" axis slides this weekend see if maybe I just got a bad set, but I have already made my mind to build with ground and polished rods and linear motion bearing cars. The cost will quad-triple but so will the accuracy.
