...'cause I'm going to be letting go of a bunch of my wood soon. I'll be clearancing all the Black Acacia shortly, and selling off the remants of my redwood supply, along with some other wood I've had that I'm realizing will never get used by me. I may even decide to let some *very special* wood go, so keep your eyes peeled during the next couple of weeks for my Ad....

I'll have limited supplies of:
Redwood
Black Acacia
Quilted Maple
Cocobolo
Sapele
Imbuya
Ziricote
...and who knows what else...

Don,

Thanks for the heads up! I will be on the lookout for your post. I think it will be a mad dash for your sets, so timing will be everything!

Now, how come it won't be used by you? You just need to build more guitars!

Jeff
Now, how come it won't be used by you? You just need to build more guitars!
Well, let's see....

#1. I have more back & side sets than I can ever use, if I continue this at the pace I'm going.

#2. More than likely, I don't need 70 redwood tops during my potential tenure as a part-time luthier.

#3. My wife wants a new car. Actually, she needs it. So I need a down-payment.

#4. I'm going to be scaling back my building, since I've found that I'm outspending more than I'm making each year.

#5. With well over 100 b&s sets at my disposal, all very nice quality, it just seems a bit excessive. I need to find some balance. I'm guessing I have a new SUV's worth of guitar sets sitting down there, and that seems nuts to tie up all that cash like that, especially when the Mrs. wants an SUV.

So, I'll be saying goodbye to some wood I've held onto quite tightly, and maybe even some of my BRW that I cherish. But it's only wood...

Be sure and explain to the Mrs. that you've made Many times your initial investment when you sell off your wood. That way when you wanna buy more, and you will, she'll have to understand, It's just like a high intrest savings account.

Don,

I will be happy to lighten your load!

But I feel that you are being short-sighted. In 5-years, you will have either an old-beatup SUV OR on the other hand, you COULD have back and side sets whose value have probably outstripped inflation several times over!

But if you insist, I'll help.

Steve,

If we end up getting an SUV, it will already be old and beat-up.... I'd have to sell ALL my Brazilian to afford a new one. That's just not going to happen!

I'm saving a nice set of BRW for Paul Woolson....Come on Paul....you know you want a set!

I'll still keep 10 or 15 sets each of my favorite woods...like the Black Acacia. I have some I simply won't part with, as many who have visited my website will understand. It may be hard to believe, but I have some BA that's even nicer than shown in that picture. It may never see the bandsaw for resawing, because it's so gorgeous, and wide.

Hey Don: Don't forget me as I have been first in line for some Braz ever since you found your stash. Besides I could call in a favor (hint Whirlpool parts).

Tim, I have not forgotten! You've always been first in line for the BRW, and every time I look at the washer I'm thankful for your help...Don Williams38534.9635069444

Hey Don,

What kind of wood stash can I get for a 1997 Expedition Eddie Bauer in great shape?

Cheers!

John

Hmmm... I don't know? My wife is only 5'-3", and hates big vehicles...so although "I" wouldn't mind an Expedition, she would not be so pleased.

Ronn,
She has decided she wants a Saturn Vue. It's more of a tall van than an SUV, but it gives her the storage she wants to haul all her gear to cat shows. She's into show cats as her hobby...anyway, it gets pretty good mileage for a vehicle of that size. Landrover?! Gas hogs, aren't they. They aren't meant to be practical you know....just expensive status symbol vehicles. A minivan is much more practical for an aspiring luthier.    Actually, a decent used minivan is a practical vehicle for a full-time luthier.

WOW! I must really be on my way then. The mini van is used! So was the "new" pickup I recently bought. I'm one of those people that buys ex-rental vehicles. You may all laugh now.

I find it hard to think of cats as a "hobby"!

My wife wanted a cat when we first got married. Then she read something about women not cleaning up after cats if they (the women) are of childbearing years. Guess who did all the grunt work. Some "hobby"...
