I've gone insane, and I'm building a wide belt sander. All those years in mechanical engineering school should be good for something, certainly didn't help my spelling. Hey, if Jim Olson can do it...

First question, what size sanding belts does your sander take?

Where do you get belts?

Anyone that has a rubber conveyor belt, does it have metal lacing at the splice, or is it an endless belt?

Does anyone have a sander that doesn't use air?

Have you considered using a sanding belt for the conveyor? Seems to work well and fairly inexpensive.

You may be able to get a replacement conveyor belt from one of the other manufactuters. My ryobi has a rubber conveyor although it is not real long nor very wide. It is a continuos belt though. I think the newer performax units have this same type of belt, also some of the Grizzly wide belt sanders may have belts such as you will need. It will be interesting to watch your progress so please kkeep us posted.

I was going to do that, but I can order the drive belt from McMaster, I'm trying to figure out what kind of belt I should get. This leads back to my original post. If I had to boil my original questions down to one, it would be: can I get any length and width of sanding belt I want?

I've had the drums for a number of years now, but I finally figured out how the tracking mechanism should work. That was definitely holding me back. I have about 90% of the parts on hand. I was going to post a picture of all the parts lying in a pile like some people do before they start working on a guitar.

It's going to be 24" wide. I thought about just buying a drive belt from Grizzley. Don't know if they will sell me one though.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I'm sure they would. Go to their website and dowload the PDF file for the manual/parts guide.John How38540.7025925926
