As promised to Brock, I got enough unpacked that I was able to take some pics this weekend among other things,
here is the jig I'm using to do fanned frets:
The way it works is that you mark the *backside* of the fingerboard with your fret positions and then using the line on the lexan piece you line up each cut. Something like this:
A couple of very important notes here...
1. The mark on the lexan is *DOWN* against the wood, this is important or you will get paralax when cutting, I can't stress enough how critical this is...
2. you need to make sure that your marks are correct when cutting, remember you'll be doing it from the backside so make sure to measure three times.
3. If possible a good light source directly above your work is the best option for this, even though rule #1 is there to prevent parallax a well positioned light will help as well.
I will post a whole set of pics of how I make a fanned later this week, I have one that's I'm trying to finish desperately for Healdsburg (don't know if I can make it though), but at least I can get the info online.
