Just a couple of random questions for the group at large: 1. Anyone know of a good cleaner/polish for lacquer, I have one that sat in a new case and got this film on it, I was afraid I'd have to take it to the buffer but a little water and a clean cloth took it right off. 2. What about a good source for polishing cloths?? I tried some of those new micro mesh ones and really don't care for them, an old cut up white T-Shirt does better I think. 3. Who makes good cheap radius dishes? I need two 25's and two 15's, the ones I got from LMI have warped out of shape some and I'm not sure I can get them back to those dimensions again and they were expensive With the workshop back up and functional I'm back to building again, with the extra room I'm adding alot of specialized areas to the shop, like one for setup and repairs, and area for buffing, one for cutting and working the wood. I'll take some pictures this weekend of what I have going on... Cheers -Paul-

McGuires #7 for a polish. 2) Local fabic store - 100% cotton flannel (your choice of cool colors). 3) eBay, or any one of the fine supporters of this forum. Seal your new dishes with a couple of coats of polyurethane to protect it from the moisture.

1) I've been using the finessit 2 I think for removing any final filmy sort of surface omperfections. Also have tried and like the new non silican polish from SM. 2) I buy these soft yellow polishing cloths from home depot, they are a very soft, felt like cotton with soft stitched edges and are 12"x18" and pretty cheep. and washable if you don't get glue all over them. 3) I got mine radius dish's from David Mitchell, who used to hang around here. I haven't heard from him in a long time but John Holl and guitar jigs still sell them I believe.

Paul, I also offer radius dishes in 13ply birch, but recently have found some fantastic material for radius dishes that I will be offering as soon as this weekend. It is made of a waterproof material called EXTERA MDF and rated to be 99% waterproof. I just sent 2 of them to Mark Blanchard of Blanchard Guitars and he was very impressed. He says they are the BEST dishes he as ever seen from a supplier and very flat and stable. I'll have his review on my website probably tomorrow night. They will be 2 dishes for $110(that's $55 each) without sandpaper, or 2 dishes for $150($75 each) with sandpaper. I'll have all kinds of new products coming on August 1st. I'll soon be an advertiser on the OLF. Hope you will check us out. Tracy

1.) Naptha- Maguires #7 2.) NAPA auto parts sells 100% cotton flannel polish cloths 10"x10" in a pack of 12 for like $2 3.) I made my dishes but I got to tell you, it is a dirty job so there worth every penny if you buy them. I seal mine with shellac

I agree with Michael, they are a pain to make them in your own shop. We cut them on a CNC machine so it is no problem for us. We also seal our dishes with a 3lb cut of shellac for protection. Even the waterproof EXTIRA MDF is sealed with shellac! Tracy

I also concur that Tracy's dishes are, by far, far, far the best dishes I've ever used. WELL worth the money he is asking..which is very reasonable.

Thanks John for the kind words! Dave, I can make them in any radius you want for a surcharge of $25 if it is not one of our standard radii. We offer standard radius' of 12', 15' 16' 20' 25'28' and 30'. We can even add a domed 10" radius on the flip side for $15 more, this is used for radiusing the bottom of your bridge! My site will be updated in the next 2 weeks with many more cool jigs. Check it out! Tracy

Wait... you sell domed ones too?? Arrrgggghhhh... Can I get one in a 25' so I can do the bottom of my bridges, now I tape 150 grit to the top and round them that way but I hate doing it after I've polished... We still need to talk about a jig for doing my mortise and tenons, I have some ideas and after HB I'll finish drawing them up and we can see about getting some made.. I should just send you a paycheck or two and get it over with... -Paul-

Paul, That is correct, I can put a recessed 10" dome on the back of any dish over 20' for $15 more. I also sell small 10" dishes in birch ply or extira mdf. I even make a 6x10" dome dish in both materials, this is shaped like this so you can clamp it in a bench vise while you sand away at the bottom of your bridge. These are $25 each. Why 10"?? That's a pretty small radius, if you dome your top to 25's should not your bridge match that?? Am I missing something here? -Paul-
