Ok. I have arranged for a long term display at my cousins store music store near Austin. He is splitting the material cost with me and wants a guitar with all the bells and whistles, so this one will be gaudy. The back and side set is a wood I have never worked with before, Quilted Sapele. The guitar is going to be a SJ body. It will have a copy of my Japanese Maple leaf inlay on an ebony FB (see attached inlay pic) and purffed with bwb-paua-bwb on top, sides, back, center seam, and head stock. allmost as much abalone as wood Way too much eye candy in my opinion, but it is a show-off guitar.

Anyway! Not having built with this wood before I am interested in everyone's suggestions for binding wood.

With all that pearl, I would use sapele for the binding. If you are using a highly figured back and sides, then you don't want a sharp contrast to distract from the pearl and the B/S wood.

Good looking!
Does it already have binding?
If not, I recommend a Dark Brazilian binding. I think it sets off the sapele and the pearl and does not fight with the pyrotechnics of the sapele.

John the pic is of my Curly Koa top/IRW B$S OM from a couple years ago. I posted the pic only for the Jap Maple leaf inlay. I will be doing the same inlay on this up coming display guitar. Andy DePaule cut my pattern for me and will again. Unbelievable Paua and MOP. This picture does not do it justice.
