As I mentioned in another thread, I picked up some mahogany for my next guitar and am looking for suggestions on binding, soundboard, fretboard/bridge, and anything else you might want to throw out there. I'll try to attach an image of the wood. I make no apologies for the picture being blurry or the naptha drying faster than I could shoot the shot in some places --- this is just to get you an idea of what the wood looks like. The picture tricks your eyes a bit, as most of the directional lines you see are figure and not grain. There is one weak spot in the wood, and I'll have to put a brace there . . . . I suppose I'm rambling off topic. Sorry. ![]() |

Michael, thanks for your thoughts. They are helpful. I hear your comments about aesthetics, and I am looking for ideas, as opposed to advise. My biggest self-critique on my past builds has been that I was too conservative on my wood choices and combinations. So I'm interested in possible combinations on this one that I might not otherwise have used. On the flamed maple bindings, that was my first reaction too. In fact, when I picked up the mahogany, I bought a board of highly flamed maple thinking it would be good for bindings. I'm still leaning toward that, but am interested in any other ideas people my have. The bloodwood suggestion is an interesting idea. |

Hi Kelby, I like zoot bindings with plain woods ie IRW/curly maple. With zoot woods I like plain bindings ie with your mahogany I like the Bloodwood idea or Cocobolo or Mad Rose. If contrast is desired I,d look at boxwood plain but elegant. Thats my opinion at least until the next guitar pics are posted. |

I would go with Dark Brazilian bindings, end graft and rosette. And a clean top, maybe adi or carpathian. And a simple purfling scheme. |
