Iwas reading a thread on the "other" forum about how to step drill tuner holes for Grover Sta-Tite open back tuners. Having access to a metal lathe at work, I came up with this little jig that works very well. It is basically a piece of 1 1/4" steel rod with a 1/4" hole drilled in the center. I milled a little "nubby" on one end to press fit into an 11/32" hole in the headstock. 12_202420_Resized_PICT0013.jpg[/IMG] Drilled the tuner holes with the 11/32 bit to the proper depth for the bushings. 12_202510_Resized_Noah_and_Tuner_Jig_007.jpg"> Stuck the little round thingy in one of the holes and used it for a drill guide for the 1/4" drill bit. Result: Perfectly centered holes. 12_202546_Resized_Noah_and_Tuner_Jig_009.jpg"> |

Jimmie, I just had to chime in on your terminology for your centering jig. What a hoot! I`m the only male in a household of five (not including eleven critters), and am always hearing "thingy" and "doohickey". When I saw your post, I got to laughing so much I spilled my coffee. ![]() Looking forward to seeing some pics. Just my .02, but any time I need to step holes, I start small as I can go, and work it up from there. |

Brock, I sent you an email, but it came back as undeliverable. Cocephus, thingy and doohickey and thingamajig are part of my everyday vacabulary. I think it should be in the dictionary. |
