Well I got back the thin body today and as luck would have it another ding was put into the finish on the top, since it's monday and I'm in the office I can't do a drop finish until tonight but don't think there is time before turhsday for it to cure correctly.

Any ideas? it's just in the finish and not in the top and not very big over all...

I called Gryphon and talked to frank about using the UV finish but he's worried that it's much harder than the lacquer... He said I could bring it by but I wanted to ask around here first before I did anyting to see if anyone else had any ideas....

Yesterday I successfully repaired a small gap that appeared inside the binding on the top of one of mine. It was just 1/8" long and very narrow but there just the same. I dropped just a small bit of gap filling CA in it and then a drop of accelerator right on top of that. After doing that I thought for sure I had made a mistake by not flattening the CA a little, but I was able to use some 800 grit on a small hard block and get it flat without sanding thru anything. After buffing, it was gone. (yahoo) Just be carefull because CA is definately hard than the lacquer. Good luckJohn How38579.7326041667

I thought of CA and may try that yet... you can use it for some things like that, the real problem is that it does not polish as good as lacquer...

This is also one of the main reasons I'm really starting to look into doing a UV cured finish on my guitars, some of the bigger builders are switching over and I'm thinking about heading down that road. Right now there's no 'bulletproof' system but with a little work I'm sure I can figure it out...

Davis, I'd be interested in your findings on the UV stuff. I'm really wanting to get away from Nitro and KTM just doesn't do it for me. I had Addam Stark do a Catalyzed Poly Res guitar about a year ago. I really liked that finish but appilcation is pretty much un-doable without an EPA spray booth.

Funny you mention Adam.... I have his card in my hot little hands and will be talking with him about this shortly. He's the one that fixed the first ding on this guitar (did a good job too) and of course wants to talk to me about doing all my finishing.

But if I can setup for UV at home I would prefer to do that so I can have more control over the process, I've started doing some research and there are problems to overcome with just applying the finish it'self.

We can talk more at HB, I suggest that we do dinner. Maybe grab Tim and John and go get something, my wife will be coming along as well..

Let's meet up thursday at check-in and work something out..

I have been using catalyzed poly for years and really like the results. I use the same technique and equipment as qhen spraying lacquer.

ever tried clear finger nail polish? It is basically the same as nitro.

Never knew that, we have TONS of that stuff around here...
