So, I'm looking at stacks of finished sets of some really nice Pau Ferro here in my shop and thinking I need to run a special sale. You know, give you guys a good deal, create some interest in our new site and help the new up and coming guitar makers all at the same time.
I remember when I first started building guitars, I was intimidated at the thought of investing too much money in some wood just to screw it up and lose my investment. At that time wood was fairly expensive. Now we have all these great vendors throwing deals at us left and right. But, as I'm going through the sets to determine what kind of package to put together thats beneficial for all and not lose my shirt in the process..I noticed something that struck me as odd. I start sorting the sets by cosmetic appearance. You know, which ones will make the prettiest guitars. However, as a guitar builder and a seller of wood...I can't resist to start tone tapping each set. That's when I discovered that the sets I would have chosen based on cosmetic appearance only, weren't the sets I would choose for sound properties !! Another thing I discovered is that some of this Pau Ferro has a very, very nice ring to it. I have a piece of Brazilian that I A / B it against and I'll tell you..some of these sets are pretty darn close in tonal qualities. AND THE UGLY ONES TO BOOT !!%(^%)*%^( Some have minor imperfections like a knot ghost, worm hole..etc..but would still make a great sounding guitar. Or if anyone wanted to build a nice painted guitar, these sets are perfect for that too. Oh well, back to sorting things out and making decisions. Just thought I'd share that with you and let you know that the members section of my site will soon have some great close outs on these Pau Ferro sets. All you new (and veteran) builders get registered as a MEMBER..IT'S FREE. Because only in the members section of our site are you gonna find these discounts. But, wait until Saturday or Sunday to look for all the deals...It's gonna take me that long to sort, photograph and load em all up to the server. I gotta make room for all the new stuff I just got in.

Jeff,

Because of the big bust in Spain in which some people were smuggling in Brazilian Rosewood, most of the Spanish market shifted overnight to Madagascar Rosewood as that is what some wood suppliers had at that time...now because of the lack of BRW and the demand for Madagascar Rosewood, prices on Madagascar Rosewood has gone up about 50 percent in about 6 months.

Now the new "hot" wood that is being offered as the BRW replacement is...you guessed it, Pau Ferro.

Beautiful sets. I'm off to register, and when the time comes, I'll want a set.

Shawn..that is some enlightening news. I did hear about the container load of BR they confiscated in Spain. Also, I don't know if you have registered with us and looked at the information I'm posting about my BR experience here but, "Mr. Wood" (who I talk about in my experiences)told me that right after that incident in Spain...he received a letter from IBAMA wanting to see documents and records of all his transactions, sales and buyers of his "Pre Ban" inventory. There isn't much that goes on in Brazil involving BR that he doesn't know about. I believe IBAMA is getting wise to his game. There are others here who I believe were involved in that transaction. Anyhoot...I hope all the spanish luthiers read the OLF posts because...I have access to a good supplier for Pau Ferro. It's good quality too. Nice straight grain with little run out and a variety of color shades. Example set:

Hey Dave,
Just came home for a minute to get a coffee. Looks like I'll be at it all night. I will take care of you by morning on member access. It takes a little while to set that up. I have another 5 or 6 to do as well so, I'll get you going before I open the doors for this sale.

It's 6:39 a.m. and my wife and I just got home from an all nighter trying to get everything finished. Still have a lot to do. But,, we're going to sleep a while and get back at it. Then we have to photograph sets, upload and, and ,and...Looks like it's going to be late saturday and into Sunday to get everything posted so, be patient we got some real nice sets coming. And I want to get everyone who registered with us set up with their password access. I'm still doing that manually and it takes a little time so hang in there guys...it's coming. O.K. guys it took a little longer than expected but, I have some very good qualilty sets up on the members section of our site at what I feel are very reasonable prices. This might be a one time deal because I don't know if I'll find Pau Ferro like this again. It's a little tough to find. I have a few more I'll be adding throughout the week so if you don't find something you like, check back again later. "Thanks a Heap" to those who have already ordered.
