At ASIA symposium someone had a solid body reso aka Les Paul or similar. The back side of the guitar body where the cone is was not covered. You could see the cone. Sounded really nice. Don did you see this instrument? Bobc38595.3056365741

National made some "resoelectric" solid body guitar which sound nice.
A friend of mine here in the UK has made 2 similar instuments with single cones he regulary gigs with them.
They have a single coil pick ups and also one on the cone ,he never has any feedback problems.

Its well worth a listen.

Lance the guy was next to Stew-Mac's table. I was amazed at the sound and the simplicity of this guitar. It wasn't plugged into an amp and I really didn't notice if it had a pickup. The actuall builder wasn't there but a friend of his. I think he said he was selling them for around $325- $350

I don't like solid body resos - I find the acoustic tone very thin and I think they lack volume. I think it's because there isn't enough air space around the cone for it to be able to move properly, which is probably why the one Bob referred to had an open back. National used to do a "student" model with an additional pierced coverplate on the back of the guitar under the cone. Interestingly, on their solid body reso Amistar put a port from the tail of the guitar through to the well underneath the cone and they sound a lot better acoustically than the National Resolectric.

I did see it, and it did sound better than I expected. I didn't think it was by any means a Scheerhorn or a Beard, but it was good for what it was.

I think it was on the Stew-Mac table, or at least behind it. One of the guys from Stew-Mac was playing it a lot, and said someone at the company did it for kicks. I recall telling him they ought to kit it. It did sound quite nice IMO.
