Is it possible to get a little history behind dobros and reso-guitars? Maybe this is where the steel guitar got its roots? About all I know is from an old Johnny Cash song "When Papa Played The Dobro", and refering to the resonator being a gallon bucket lid.
This might be a little help to get the new forum rolling. Congratulations and good luck, Don!

From what I've gleaned from the book "Guitar: An American Life" by Tim Brookes, it seems the resonator was an off-shoot of the Hawaiian guitar craze back at the beginning of the last century. The steel guitar I'm not entirely sure about, but I think it may have come from similar roots.

Bob Brozman has written the history of the Dopyera Brothers and associates that invented the reso guitars. It's a very interesting book.John How38595.4664930556
