Well, Here's another first for me!
I can't believe I did it!!
It was scary as heck but everything worked out. A couple more practice runs and I'll go for the GOLD!

Hey Walter, looks great. If you paint the area in shellac before you cut the rings, you'll be less likely to have any chipout problems. And...You'll want to turn the router in such a way that you are always cutting into the grain. So You'll be making two half circles in opposite directions instead of one full circle. Right on Walter..CONGRATS!!

As Pauk said, just put a bit of finish on first, something fast drying so that it is a surface film rather than penetrating. Then it will sand off when you level your rosette and it won't interfere with your final finish.

way to go Walter .. next question did you test fit your rosette? on my first with the same jig I thought mine was perfect till I went to fit up the rosette. and found the Dremel's bearings had run out in them. fortunatly it was on a Koa top and not that hard to gap fill and hide, but if it had been on a spruce or cedar top, forget it. Anyway I am going to assume the best, that you did not run into the same issue
