A rookie question. I have a set of waverly tuners on my first build. I have
noticed with the two unwound strings (B &E) I have an uneven feel to the
tuners. As I tighten them they feel loose then tight. Also, I try to tune to a
lower pitch, it takes a bit for it to drop then it drops too far, and I have to
tighten up to tune. Is this a tuner problem or is it a nut problem.
I don't have enough experience to know the difference.

Thanks Again
Andy

Addendum
I just took the high E string off and there is still an uneven feel esp when
tighening. could it be a bushing problem???? They are Waverlys so I would
expect them to be built perfectly

Andy

Andy,

Are you building classical? I have heard of this when the holes for the tuners weren't drilled just right. If the holes aren't perfect, they will grab as you mentioned. They will also squeek against the wood when turned. If they are tight, the wood may prevent the peg from turning properly, and then it will skip when it releases, causing it to drop below the note you are tuning to. If it's a steel string, sorry, I have no clue.

Good luck!

John

Hi Andy,
Last month I put a set of Grover V-97 open back tuners on my first guitar. I noticed upon using the guitar that I had quite a bit of slack with 2 of the tuners. I sent Grover an email and they instructed me to send them back.
They replaced them quickly and now the problem has been corected.

Don't be afraid to send them back to the factory. I believe they're guaranteed for life.
You paid a lot of money for them so why not.
