Well, we spent the weekend at the www.IBMA.org "Fan Fest" and boy, howdie, did we have a fun time. There were thousands of pickers from all over the globe there. We met people, from, England, Scotland, Germany, Japan, Canada, Asia and all over the US. We met kids [single digit age] that were absolutely amazing. They could pick a guitar like they hade played one every day for 40 years! All the "Big Boyz" were there in force: Martin, Gibson, Taylor, Huss & Dalton, Blue Ridge, Galagher, scads of fiddle builders, mando Builders, reso builders, upright bass builders + little ol' me & my sweetie ;) What blew us away is that ALL of the Big Boyz came over to our booth and played my guitars, and some came back the second day to play them again. All of my guitars were ported and when we let them demo them they were all astounded at the effect that the ports have on the sound. It was quite evident that they had not experienced a port before. Well it's time to rest up and get back into the shop. It was a fun and memorable weekend for us but it sure is good to be home. |

Hi Bruce and thanks for the kudos. We sold one Black Acacia Slope D, 2 Hickory Ds, 1 Mahogany D & 1 EIRW suburst D. 4 out of the 5 had Vintage tops on them so that was a plus for us. I think as a whole, the BG crowd has more interest in a plain traditional look with a Martinesque sound. My guitars tend to be more modernesque in appearance but there were folks there that were looking for something different (thank goodness). |

Tim...you are right about the locals in Nashville. They are very traditional in their choice of guitars. I built guitars in and around Nashville for over 10 years. They are very faithful to the Martin and Gibson styles. One great example I can remember was an instance with Ricky Skaggs. He wanted a pickup system in one of his guitars and we didn't have anything he really liked. So, he bought a Takamine off the rack...had me gut the electronics (pre amp and all) and install it in one of his newer martins !! And left me the old gutted Tak. But, Nashville is a beautiful and nice city ain't it. Not too overly populated..Nice folks and always willing to help. Glad you had some positive results. To me Nashville was always one of the hardest places for sales at guitar shows. |

I actually called him several months before the show as I was polling some of the previous exhibitors for sage advice. Carrol and his wife were both really great people and we enjoyed meeting them both at the show. |

I had a great time at IBMA ("I've Been Mostly Awake") last week... Great instruments all the way around... Loved seeing the touristy attractions as well.... Seeing Mother Maybelle's L5 and Big Mon's mando at the museum, touring RCA Studio B, checking out the great bands on Broadway, and playing the toys at Gruhns (bought a great surf guitar there), and the awards show at the Ryman were all highlights... Picked till 4-5 a.m. every night... Great fun, and a great way to spend a week in November... |

As I set here, listening to my new CD of David Grier, "I've Got the House to Myself" I am just reflecting again on all of the fabulously talented people we met and saw while we were there. I am still in awe. It's just not fair that my fingers don't move the way theirs do 
Thanks for all of the nice words folks. I didn't mean to come across as bragging. I just wanted to share a really positive and fun experience. One of the highlights was finally meeting Mario (pronounced Mary-Oh) and his sweet wife Jenny. They truly are really nice people. Just wish we could have spent more time together. Oh, well, maybe next year, eh? |
