My wife and I are in Seattle at the moment for a weekend without the kid. So.... I thought I would go check out Micheal Gurian's shop which is on a barge in the North Seattle harbour. Very cool. On entering, there was a very strong smell of rosewood. Material everywhere. The first person I saw was running a laser, cutting out headstock veneers for Tacoma guitars. He told me to head upstairs to talk with someone about purchasing. So I did, and went through their stash of "specials" and picked out a bunch of binding and purfling. Than this older fellow comes upstairs, and it's Micheal. I introduce myself and he invites me for a tour of the shop. So he shows me the laser area, the 3 cnc lathes where they make their bridge and end pins, planer and sander area. The lathes are very cool, oh, they also make all their own dowelling as well, all the ebony you could think of, huge crates in the basement full of ebony, just waiting for milling. Was very cool, and Micheal was very friendly. These guys make and sell so much stuff. All for some big customers, Martin, Tacoma, Larrivee to name a few. Don't know how many of you buy from Gurian but they have a great site and of course great product. Micheal said that they supply all of the main luthier suppliers, LMI, Stew-mac, Allied. Check it out, Gurian Instruments Well that's it. |

Wow, that's a great story. I'm gonna have to go over to Seattle then. My wife's been bugging me about going, and it's just across the Spit,(Puget Sound, for those who don't live up here.) so maybe next weekend. Thanks Rod. Love to hear stories like this. |

I've been meaning to drop in there when I'm in Seattle sometime. Are they on the ship canal in Ballard or Lake Union? |

In Ballard I believe. Since I'm not to familiar with the area, don't quote me on it. Just took a look on a map. Gurian is right next to the Goverment Locks in the Ballard area. |

Thanks for sharing the URL. Great site and make sure to check out the links to some really interesting sites and guitars. Check out True North Guitars (one of the links).. Cleanest darn shop I have EVER seen with rugs on the floor and a view to die for. |

Rich, I love Dennis' webpage and shop. Very nice and clean as you mentioned. Very nice guitars as well. That was the name I wanted to use for my guitars, but Dennis already had it, and I have a very long way to go before I come close to his caliber. |
