I recently travelled to another country with one of my guitars. I used a very
good travel case. No problems.
Here is my thought... with making guitars with a bolt on neck AND a bolt on
neck extension, couldn't this be perfect for a travel guitar.
1. Loosen the strings
2. Velcro down the strings to keep them straight and tidy
3. Pop out bridge pins and strings
4. Unbolt the neck
5. Place in a carry on case designed to fit the body and neck.

Am I crazy thinking this is a good idea for a travel guitar.
No checking....Just carry it on the plane.

I was thinking the same thing. A buddy wants me to build him a guitar and I'm hoping to have it ready for his birthday next year. I figured with a bolt on neck I could take it on the plane as carry-on luggage, then assemble it when I get there.

Andy, yes it is possible and has been done so go for it.

John, that is a cool one. I've seen quite a few travel guitars with removable necks, but that is the first folding neck I've come across.
