Doug, I've only bent one set of koa, but I think it was bent at about .085.

Thanks Dave,
I was thinking around .090. Did you have any problems going that thin?

No problems Doug. I usually bend most stuff between .085 and .090 though, so I guess I'm used to it. I am using a Fox style bender from John Hall and the double heat blanket that John Mayes recommends in ihs videos.

Now that I think about it I may have gone even a little thinner on that one because it had a cutaway. Can't really remember and it's not around here anymore.

I've bent many sets of Koa between .085 and .090. I also use a FOx style bender.Jim_W38676.6927083333

Doug,

The set of Acacia that I bent into a Venetian cut-away was .080. I might be a bit thin but man it bent easy and still feels like there is a lot of structure in the sides. I am added .25 x .25 (tapered) mini braces on the sides though (cause I like it and cause it will be just to make sure that nothing splits.) Acacia and Koa, same thing!

I think if I was doing one without a cut-away I would try .090.

I have not yet bent Koa, but the set of Flamed Black Acacia bent at .075 to .080. It was a dread shape, so not much of a bend there, never the less, it bent well.

Doug-

I think I've done more Koa than any other wood. Bend it all by hand, at around .085, pretty much like everyone else. It is an agreeable wood to work with. You'll like it.
