Before sanding again and shooting more lacquer I took a few photos of the guitar so far...
The bridge is just put in place with a piece of sticky tape but this way you can see it in the context of the rest of the guitar.

Thanks to everyone for all the terrific advice...I hope I don't screw it up :)

Bill that is just incredible, really. Obviously your inlay is impressive, but the guitar itself looks amazing. I think someone else said it best: you may be "new" to guitar building, but you are clearly no stranger to high-quality woodworking.

Beautiful work. Can't wait to see the final results. When you have time, I'd love to see a closeup of that fretboard extension, where the leaf is on half of it, and the other half of the leaf is on the guitar. Bill Greene38675.5878356481

Wow! Looks great. I really like the leaf inlays.

Do you have any close-up shots?
Thanks.

here is a close up of the fretboard extension.
of course the neck is not really attached to the guitar yet...it's just sitting in place right now.

Now that's a guitar I'd be proud to own, or even more to have made. It's gorgeous.

Beautiful work! You have really carried out the theme well. I also like the look of the bound peghead with overlay on both sides.

Wow, she's a beauty!

And ironically, the inlay scheme is very similar to one I sketched out quite a while back, just featuring maple leaves instead of oak.

thanks..
it's funny you should mention the Winter guitar.
I just received the wood for it from Steve at Colonial Tonewoods. It's going to be Carpathian Spruce on Curly Afican Mahogany. I'm still comtemplating the inlay design.

that sure is a pretty guitar. I think the entire instrument carries the autumn theme nicely.

Bill, that's a really nicely designed and excecuted instrument! That stand is interesting. Did you make it, too? If so, how about a shot of that as well?

No Stains..just different woods. The leaves are Koa, Walnut, Padouk, Bloodwood and one other that I just can't remember right now.

Yes the stand is mine also. I used to offer them on my web-site but they just take too darn long to make, so I discontinued them.

Absolutley Stunning work. I can almost believe the leaves will start falling right off the neck, while being replaced by another batch.
Just beautiful!!

That's incredible! In that closeup shot of the FB extension it looks like a real leaf just fell onto the guitar top. Excellent work!

Bill,

Beautiful job, well executed.

Todd's idea of 'Christmas Time is Here' as a song for the WInter guitar brought to mind what I think would be the perfect complement to the Autumn guitar which would be Eva Cassidy's arrangement of "Autumn Leaves"...a very haunting arrangement and very nice for a figurestyle guitar. Once you have the quartet of guitars done, if you had a song clip to go with each of your "seasonal" guitars and put them on a website, it would get alot of attention...

Very nice!

I'm working on my own 'Season' series, and it's interesting to see the different ways people evoke the same things. My 'Autumn' guitar is a classical, although it's based loosely on a 12-fret 000, and the leaves had to be smaller to fit as purfling around the top. There ended up being about a thousand of them, 3.5mm square, with twenty pieces of side grain wood in each. My 'Winter' is an archtop, with the 'tuxedo' look; all maple, spruce and ebony, with white pearl for the inlays. I still have to make 'Spring' and 'Summer'. You can see them on my web site:
http://www.alcarruthluthier.com
under 'New Work'. I don't know how to post pics here.

Maybe we ought to get all the 'season' collections togther sometime, at Newport or H'burg, or a GAL or ASIA meeting!
