Hi All, I just finished spraying my last coat of my first finish on my first guitar (HA.. say that 10 times fast!). I am very jazzed to be approaching final setup. So for the question. I sprayed KTM-9 almost exactly per Mike Doolin's instructions. After all the spraying I've got a few spots that came out a bit grainy. I'm curious if it would have any adverse effect to flat sand the finish tomorrow (while it's still a little soft) then do all the final sanding/polishing in 2 weeks once the finish has completely cured. Or should I just wait? Thanks, Joe |

I would also wait the 2 weeks. If you sand level now you will probably have to do it again before you buff. The finish will shrink over those 2 weeks as it drys. Josh |

JOe, this grainey area you refer to sounds like a bit of orange peel. If it is this and it is slight, just let it cure and sand and buff normally after the cure time. It should come out fine. |

Food for thought... The longer KTM-9 cures, the harder it becomes, and the harder it becomes to buff out the sanding scratches. I've been wet-sanding and buffing relatively quickly, then waiting longer and then wet sanding with 2000 and and up again if needed and buffing. I know it sounds like a lot more work, but it has been worth the results. |
