Hi All,
I just finished spraying my last coat of my first finish on my first guitar (HA.. say that 10 times fast!). I am very jazzed to be approaching final setup. So for the question.

I sprayed KTM-9 almost exactly per Mike Doolin's instructions. After all the spraying I've got a few spots that came out a bit grainy. I'm curious if it would have any adverse effect to flat sand the finish tomorrow (while it's still a little soft) then do all the final sanding/polishing in 2 weeks once the finish has completely cured. Or should I just wait?

Thanks,
   Joe

I would also wait the 2 weeks. If you sand level now you will probably have to do it again before you buff. The finish will shrink over those 2 weeks as it drys.

JOe,
this grainey area you refer to sounds like a bit of orange peel. If it is this and it is slight, just let it cure and sand and buff normally after the cure time. It should come out fine.

Food for thought...

The longer KTM-9 cures, the harder it becomes, and the harder it becomes to buff out the sanding scratches. I've been wet-sanding and buffing relatively quickly, then waiting longer and then wet sanding with 2000 and and up again if needed and buffing. I know it sounds like a lot more work, but it has been worth the results.
