I am in Mexico City on buisness this week. While hear I took an order for a guitar for a local office employee. One that I did not have a bending mold for, a D-cutaway. Anyway I emailed John and orderd the bending mold and press caul and set it up to pay through paypal. I recieved the paypal bill, Picked pay method sellected my credit card as the funding method hit the pay button but somthing went wrong and it took the money from my varified checking. I knew I wasI was $30 short in my checking, that is why I picked my credit card for this bill. Anyway I called paypal the moment it happened and told them. I was told that I never picked my credit card as the funding method. I explained to them that I had but for some reason it did not happen and we went through the process. I had done just as required but their software shows that I did not change anything. I was hit with an overdraft charge instantly and have found out I will be hit with another first thing tomarrow that $50 in charges and paypal informed me that this my problem not theirs even though they agree that I had changed my primary funding to my credit card but because I have my checking setup as my varified instant funding accout there was nothing they would or could do. And not so nicly informed me that they will do nothing to help resolve the matter before the second charge his my bank.

I contacted my bank to explain the matter and it is not there problem either.

Point being is if you have a vaified acount and want to change your funding to a differnt accout It appears you need to have the varified account turned off to insure it does not hit that account. Of cource this means you will not have instant payment.

Then to top the matter paypal asked if I would like the varified accout process turned off. I did not tell them to, yet tem minuets after my conversation with them they did just that.

I am not a happy camper

I have had both really good and really bad experiences working with them.

They were great about problems I have had with USING my ATM card, but a giant pain in other areas.

On the whole I like Pay Pal.... but it has it's frustrating moments to be sure....

Michael,

Sorry to hear about this; If you can rush out to the back and deposit the 30 bucks immediately. That should take care of the overdraft. At least at my bank it does. (both me and wife sometimes spend without consulting one another)

If PayPal admits that they noticed a change in funding source, then go to the bank and contest the charge. Also check the credit card balance.

Don't ask the bank for help, and stick to your guns. (gonna sock it to you anyway)

Oh I do too on whole. My agravation is not with there survice provided. but rather the fact that there is nothing they can do to help once a paymet button is hit. I am ending up paying $180 for a $130 bill

Michael,
Does your mouse have a center scroll wheel? One time, I was making a purchase online and there was a drop-down select list with options for quantity (1,2,3,4). The option I initially chose was a quantity of "1". But I got charged a couple hundred dollars for order quantity of 5. What I discovered was that if a drop-down has the "focus" and you move the center scroll wheel on your mouse, it will change the option chosen (scroll the option list). Don't know if this happened to you or not, but it did me. I got a refund.

Yes but that was not the issue I work with such drop down bars all day long and am aware of the phatom scrolling issue. Paypal refuses to help I will bight the bullet this time but I am removing my checking account as a funding source. use only my credit card. I hate that because I prefer to use my credit card for only extrem emergencies and company travel under normal situations.

Or, if you are on a laptop, sometimes your thumb can hit the touch panel while you are typing and make the cursor jump around.

I have noticed too that some online forms just reset themselves no matter what you select. I once ordered some clothing online, selected Medium for the size. It wasn't until I got the confirmation email that I noticed the form had automatically defaulted and switched to XL. I hate bad design!

This puzzles me. I wonder if they've changed something. I have as my primary "verified" source my checking acount also, but I also have my American Express account as a backup. I have used Amex a number of times instead of my checking account and have never run into this. If they'vechanged something it sounds like a bug in their system, and I'd put up a big stink about it. Sometimes you gotta be an A-hole to get things done.

Best,

Michael

I'm sure they have changed something, enough to be pretty much worthless in my view. I don't feel like risking my bank account to them as there is too much money in there. I've spent thousands through paypal, but when I removed my bank account I no longer can send any money, zero. I can see a limit, but not a limit of zero. And if I transferred money into my account, they have a reputation for simply taking it, and since they are not a bank there is nobody that can stop them.

Too bad, it was such a great idea.

I've had the same problem - I chose a credit card to pay with, but they hit my "petty cash" checking account. Luckily I figured it out soon after I did it so I was able to do an online bank transfer from another account.

Michael,
I believe my accountwith paypal is set so that if there isn't enough funds in my checking then they automatically charge my pre-determined credit card. Also, there is a way, I believe, to make your credit card the default standard and not the checking account. this way you never have to worry about cash balance.

I realy dislike banks and bankers in general because they have two standards of operation...one for the very rich ( which isn't me) and one for the rest of us. I have worked for many a wealthy business/person and seen how banks bend over backwards for those with wealth. I know from personal experience how they have to do such "big favors...this one time only" for ME. If you have major funds flowing thru your account...you wouldn't even need to make a phone call for something like this...they would call you and ask YOU how/what you would like to do! Not fair...

Pay Pal stinks. I sold an old echoplex on Ebay the buyer did a chargeback and shipped me a box of old books. Pay Pal tried to extract the funds from my account but I closed the bank account. I have had friends that got stuck with this scam for over $3500. Pay Pal after 6 months still is trying to collect the funds from me and is harrassing me with a collection agency. The fraud perpatrator is long gone.

Yes my account is setup so that if funds are not in the verified account, it will take them out of my primary credit card. As it turned out all overdrafts were dropped by my bank. They miss proccessed the trasaction. and refunded my accout the $25 overdraft. but I still have an issue with the fact that I entered this charge to my creditcard instead of my varified account failed on this trans action. As well as the fact that PayPal tuned off my verified option with out my permission after placing a service call on this issue. They asked If I wanted to turn this off to prevent this from happening again. I told them no, but they still turned it off.
