Hey folks, I have a friend would asked me to install a pickup in her fender reso and since I know nothing about them, I figured I would ask what it takes.

here's the guitar.

Hi Rod, I'm new here but have been building resonators
for quite a few years. Fishman makes a good unit for a
spider bridge that you can get through Stew-Mac and I
also like Pick-Up The World transducers. I've used them
on my single and tricones but never a spider.
Both will need a decent preamp.
The other option is a magnetic placed at the end of the

Nice to see you here Mike! I had the opportunity to sit in on Paul Beard's lecture at the ASIA Symposium over the summer, and he also feels the Fishman pickup is the best out there for reso's.

I highly recommend the Schatten - they thought of putting the pickup on the tension screw long before Fishman. Also the Schatten doesn't have to have a preamp.

While you've got the Fender apart, make sure the soundwell top is level, not like this one

and also check the bridge slots have been cut properly.

Hey Don, thanks! Hey to you too pete. I forgot about the
Schatten, keep meaning to try them.

Nice picture, gotta love that Chinese craftsmanship eh?
At least they tuck the braces!
