Seems like this is the place to go for computer help as well as guitars. I am using Nero Express 2 to make a DVD of the family. I am able to create and save the project but when burning, it errors. The size of the project is a bit more than 1/2 giga. Sometimes I get a message "virtual memory too low" I have only 256mb ram on the machine. If I buy more memory will this solve my problem? I am able to burn smaller projects but it takes around 25 minutes to burn about 40 photos with a soundtrack. |

Especially if you're running XP, 512Meg is about minimum these days. That'll probably fix what ails you. In the meantime, one thing you can try is making sure everything else except Nero is closed while you burn the disc, including most of the little icons down by the clock... Things like Quicktime, AOL Messenger, MSN messenger, iTunes, RealPlayer, things like that. I wouldn't normally suggest shutting down virus software, but if you're not connected to the net and you don't have any other programs, you can probably shut down that, too, while you burn. |

Hi Robbie You may be able to cure this one by increaseing the size of your virtual memory. Virtual Memory is a portion of the hard disk that is allocated for swap out memory. Which basically means it provides a bucket for the real memory in your guitar to expand into. You can change this in XP by doing the following. Switch the Control Panel to Classic View by clicking this option in the left of the control panel window if not already set. Open Control Panel Click the system Icon Choose the Advanced Tab Select the settings button under Performance Choose the Advanced Tab Select the Change button under Virtual Memory, if you have plenty of disk space Double the maximum size and press Set then OK. Hope this helps |

I have felt the need for more memory for awhile so I guess I need to just do it. My virtual memory setting was at min 300 and max 768. Last night I increased the max to 1000 and still had the problem. Now I just set it at 1.4 giga Let's see if that solves the problem. I also am shutting down all icons and programs. |

Robbie, You may want to check out Newegg.com. That's where I buy most of my computer hardware. Good prices, quick shipping, and very low shipping charges. Here's an example (of course, you'll need to make sure the memory you buy is the right type for your machine) 1GB Mushkin SP3200 RAM, $82 - $10rebate + $4.81 for 3 day shipping. One example from Newegg.com Hope this helps! Dennis |

Crucial is a good place to buy memory, too. It's not the cheapest, but it's really good quality and it's easy to find exactly the right type of memory if you go through their system and tell them what make and model computer or motherboard you have. If you do that they'll guarantee it compatible with your system. They ship really quick, too. |

I get all my hardware from www.NCIX.com Have you tried turning down your write speed? It might hold you over until you get your new memory.. Seems like you might have more problems though, 256 isn't a lot but it should carry you through burning a cd.. Might have too much running in the background or have some spyware/adware eating up your memory. |

Thanks for all the info guys. I couldn't wait and went to a local store and bought another 512mb of RAM. I installed it and then began working on the project I am doing (family fotos set to music) The project grew in size from around 1/2 giga to over 2 gigas. When I tried to burn it the program just laughs at me and closes down. ![]() |

Robbie, Sounds like you got some questionable/incompatible RAM. I'd try taking out the old RAM and just using the new RAM, just to see if that works. Also, since you're getting VM errors, might look at how much hard drive space you have. Prolly need at least a couple gigs of free hd space for DVD burning. Good luck. Wanna be sure you keep those DVDs coming for us newbies! |
