Does anybody have any idea what kind of markup the bigger companies like Martin or Taylor have on their standard line of guitars? I'm just curious what they get for them vs. what the store charges. I think I was really fed a line of crap at the store today and was wondering if anybody here knows what the average markup is. John |

Stores get 50% off. They usually sell around 20-30% off. those numbers can vary from store to store but that's ballpark. |

That sounds about right. I was in a music store yesterday and was asking about trading in my Martin for a Taylor because I wanted a cutaway. They were going to give me $800 for a mint OM21 and then wanted to charge over $1,800 for an 414. I told the guy I didn't mind them making a couple hundred bucks on the deal, but making over $1,000 seemed a little excessive. They refused to deal on either guitar, so I walked. Thanks! John |
