It looks like it is going good.

One suggestion is that if your sides are going to taper from the tail to the neck you may find it easier to cut the taper before assembling and it will also make it easier to keep the right and left halves of the side pair straight.

Are the side Cocobolo?...looks nice...you are on a roll

Yes it is Cocobolo, and yeah I thought about cutting the taper beforehand. I've got the third guitar in the works as well, maybe I'll try some different techniques on that one.

When I made my 1st guitar, I didn't taper the sides before the bend. I had a heck of a time getting the sides to shape, let alone the tail and end blocks. Try it on your next guitar. If you like stick with it. If not chalk it up to learning. I keep lots of chalk around my shop.

Are you using a machine to bend?

I never cut the taper before bending. It is just a matter of a bit of plane work and then a trip in the radius dish. I find it easier to get everyting square and in place if the sides are straight along both edges. This is just a personal preference and you can do it either way. I bend free-hand and like to have both sides straight to use as reference points when bending.

I'll have to post a picture of my homemade bending jig, it's really very simple but works great. I've never had any problem bending anything to date, I do use a blanket and some steel slats, works super.

I am the same as Greg here and my bud Josh .. taper after bending and gluing in blocks - never know when I will decide to make a particluar guitar deeper at the tail, or at the neck, or both - this way I just plane down till it fits the bowl and then grind it (or drive the bus as I call it with my students. The only wood that this didnt work well with was a students birdseye maple - we had to carefully cut it to the marks, then drive the bus for a good long while (or he did - teeheehee ..) best part of teaching folks - they do ALL the sanding.
