Probably pretty simple but planning on painting a guitar and wondering how the rosette gets done on a painted soundboard??

Paint it and then install the rosette? Or do you simply tape off the rosette during the painting process? (Seems like build up of paint would show)

Hi Rich
This is a tricky operation for the first timer. You will install the rosette , seal , then mask off the rosette . once the paint is cured you pull the masking off and finish with a clear coat over the paint to fill the void of the masking.
I hit the first coat and then drop fill the rosette , hit another coat or 2 then level sand. That way I have a cusion and don't sand into the paint.
If you try and install the rosette after paint you will allmost be garanteed chip out.

Geeeez, when you get such a simple answer to something that seemed so complex it is almost an embarrasement.

Especially when my first 15 years of work life was as a body man and painter!!!!

Thanks John
