With the advice ofyou guys, and a look a frets.com, I sucessfully steamed out my first neck by myself. I bought a krups, attached the hose wiht a basketball pin, drilled a hole through the heel and after TONS of steam got it off. Almost gave up. I have included some pics - and of course now questions.
The steamer seemed to shoot a good bit of water even though I kep the hose below the level of the guitar and inserted the pin from the back with the top facing me so any water woujld come out. NOrmal?
Then, of course with that good deal of steam it may have hurt the finish, but I might be able to buff it out -- see the pics - what do you think?
You will see where my drill hole came out through the back of the heel. Did I go too far?
Also see the bit of what looks like puddy at the botom of the joint. What is with that?
I assume my next steps are to clean the sides of the joint in the body and same with the tail. Any tricks to reseting? What glue should I use, I was going to use titebond.
Sorry for all the questions. By the way, funny, but one of the neck resets on frets.com is an old epi almost exactly like this one - how is that for luck. Helped me to know where the joint was. Thanks again.
Dennis
