ok.... in my continued attempt to find new players I've never heard...... and just for fun.... I pose these two questions....

1. What guitar player is the biggest inspiration to your building?

2. If you could have any guitar player exclusively play your instruments, which one would it be?

I'll go first...

1. Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel and James Taylor.

2. Ron Hawkins, (Lowest of the Low,) and Tommy.

Cheers,

Richard.

As a player, the biggest inspirations to me were Davy Graham and Martin Carthy, more recently the late Eric Roache. As a builder I'd have to say the most inspirational player is me, as I build just for me!

-Mark Knopfler

Unfortunately Chet left us a few years ago, but what an inspiration. May he rest in peace.

I gotta add Don Ross, Stephen Bennett for harp guitar, and the usually unbelievable playing of Alex deGrassi. Do they inspire my building, not really, I just like the playing. I build for anyone who wants one, and the first person who wanted one bad enough was ME.

I would add Billy Gibbons in there for electrics. The man is too cool.

After that first one the disease just got worse ...

I'd say the answers to 1 & 2 are essentially the same, and I'm leaving out
the impossible (i.e. deceased or only play vintage, etc.) :
Woody Mann
Mike Dowling
Mary Flower
Orville Johnson
Richard Thompson
Bob Mould
Steve James
David Jacobs-Strain
Kelly Joe Phelps

OK I give up! Who are all these people?

If you want to talk real guitar players, lets talk about John Williams, Christopher Parkening, Sharon Isben, Antigoni Goni (I'm in love with her!) et al.

Wake up... Classical's where it's at!

Listen to his version of Chopi by Pablo Escobar. It's as good as it gets for a guitar player.

Check out his playing on the Bach BMV 998. It's amazing. He's also won international competitions as both a jazz and classical player.

Cheers!

I'm soooo ashamed!    How could I have left him out? I met him last year at a master class and went to his concert that evening. He's great!

If you really want to lose your heart though, go see Ana Vidovic in concert. He's an incredible player and beautiful too.

Thanks for setting me right! Steve Brown

Earl Klugh. He is unbelievably gifted.
Then another thumb's up for Phil Keaggy. He is just unbelievable--I always wanted to put a guitar in his hand.
Then a guitar each for the Brazilian Guitar Quartet.

Then I'd retire happy.

Steve
