...about tuners, not sausage.
I've got a customer asking about cleaning the plating on his Grover (I think) tuners. The plating is precious thin. He's concerned about taking anything too agressive to the plating, but wonders if there is some cleaner perfectly suited to the task? Told him I'd ask the question to you guys, cuz frankly, I'd like to know also. So, what works folks?

Clean carefully using damp rags with soap being optional. Obviously keep the moisture off of the peghead. Then apply a good quality museum-grade wax like Rennaissance. Buff it up after a few minutes & you'll get a very nice shine with no destructive abrasives needing to be used.

Bruce--gold, and like I said, (gold) Grovers. I'm not overly impressed with their plating. In fact, I've used several of their nickel plated Rotomatics, and they're starting to look terrible in about 4-5 years.
Hoping that what works for one metal plating will work for the others?

How about a new set, while you have them off.....

I've compared the gold grovers to the gold shallers, no question the Shallers are prettier and hold up in the finish dept better.

The Grovers look pale gold while the Schallers are deep rich gold.

I have a polish joke, if you'd like to hear it.

you might want to try a product called Flitz. It is a very fine polishing compound for metal. It does not even harm gun blueing, but should produce a nice luster.

Yes, I like the aesthetics of the Schallers mo better myself. However, they have a different footprint than the Grovers, and there would be the issue of those screw holes that don't line up. Oh well....It's for an upper end Taylor, a 910 I believe. The fellow might be best served buying a new set of Grovers.
