Help I am repairing my friends guitar. I sanded flat his fingerboard and refreted it and am trying to stain the fingerboard I have two problems 1.its fairly uneven I am hoping more coats will help this and even out the color 2.I got a little on the top and it has sunk in to some scratches in the finish what do I do? This one is the more serious to me since I really dont want to refinish the whole top. I am using the stew mac fingerboard dye. Thanks |

Next time mask off what you don't want stained, You are going to have a difficult time getting that out as it penetrated very deep and fast. What kind of wood was the fingerboard? some woods stain better than others. You may havd sanded to too fine of a grit and polished the fingerboard . This will keep stain from absorbing or you just has a board that has too much oil in it. Good luck john hall |
